(ConservativeHub.com) – On Monday, May 6, reigning Miss USA, Noelia Voigt, surrendered her title to prioritize her mental health.

The 24-year-old won the crown in September, but nearly eight months into her reign shared the news on Instagram that she would be resigning as Miss USA.

In a lengthy post, Voigt shared with her 108,000 followers that she “strongly” values making choices “that feel best for you and your mental health,” adding that she felt her time as Miss USA, in which she represented the US at Miss Universe and her home state of Utah, was “incredibly meaningful.”

However, she expressed sadness over having to make the “very tough decision” to hand in her resignation as the title holder.

Voigt said she was grateful that her time as title holder allowed her to advocate for “anti-bullying” and raise awareness about “dating violence.” Voigt also expressed gratitude about being afforded the opportunity to champion “immigration rights and reform” as the first-ever Venezuelan-American to win the title.

She then shared that she hoped her decision would “inspire others” not only to be steadfast but also to “prioritize” their mental health and “advocate” for themselves, She concluded her statement by sharing her love for her fans and followers.

Soon after Voigt had made the announcement of her resignation public, the Miss USA Organization released a statement sharing their “respect and support” for Voigt and her decision to resign from the role.

The organization also added that it was “reviewing plans” to transition Voigt’s responsibilities to a successor, with the announcement of a new title holder “coming soon.” On May 9, the pageant announced Savannah Gankiewicz, the first runner-up from last year’s competition, as Voigt’s successor.
