(ConservativeHub.com) – Kelli McGriff-Williams, a 42-year-old mother from Florida, has been arrested and charged with felony child neglect after she allegedly kept her daughter trapped in their house. Reportedly, she kept the child captive from 2017 to 2023.
The arrest report notes that for the majority of the time, her 9-year-old daughter was confined in her bedroom. Furthermore, the mother allegedly did not enroll her daughter in school or educate her.
Miami-Dade police noted in the report that the little girl never visited the doctor, not even in cases of illness, and that she did not know how to read and write. According to the report, the mother would also refuse to provide her daughter with food in some cases, and the victim would often have to beg for food.
Following an investigation from the Florida Department of Children and Families, an officer visited McGriff-Williams’ home and arrested her. Before that, on Aug. 26, the woman was involuntarily placed in Jackson South Hospital under the Baker Act.
The victim has now been placed with her father who has claimed that he has been trying to get custody through the court for about six years. He further informed the police that all of the allegations were true.
After McGriff-Williams was discharged from the hospital, she was placed into custody on Sept. 1. She is now being held on a $5,000 bond after being booked two days later.
The woman has been assigned a public defender and has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
