Mother Sentenced for Starving Her Child

Mother Headed To PRISON – She Did the Unthinkable To Her Own Child

( – Following a conviction on July 29 over the death of her 18-month-old son, Sheila O’Leary finally learned her fate on August 29. Judge Bruce Kyle sentenced her to life in prison on multiple charges of child neglect and abuse, aggravated manslaughter, and first-degree murder. She can have no contact with her surviving children.

O’Leary’s toddler, Ezra, died in his sleep in September 2019. The mother said he hadn’t eaten for a week before his death, and authorities marked his weight as only 17 pounds. She had three other children, ages 3, 5, and 11, all of whom officers found malnourished as well. When questioned, the mother told investigators that her family was strictly vegan and only ate raw fruits and vegetables, but the baby also received breastmilk.

According to a report from Fox 29, prosecutors said during the trial that O’Leary wasn’t facing charges because her son died, but because she didn’t get him help when she saw he was in distress. They emphasized the fact the mother ignored his health problems and let him die. Before this incident, a Virginia court had removed another child from the home because of malnutrition concerns and returned the minor to the care of their father.

O’Leary’s husband, Ryan, the father of the deceased baby and the other children who remained in the home, also faces charges in the matter. He has additional counts against him for sexual assault and molestation of a child under the age of 12.
