(ConservativeHub.com) – Rising gas prices have proven problematic over the last several months for many Americans who are feeling the pinch at the pump. This week, President Joe Biden signed an executive order banning the import of oil from Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, which is bound to increase prices even more — at least in the interim. One journalist expressed dismay the US isn’t more energy independent.
On Tuesday, March 8, MSNBC’s Katy Tur admitted it’s “insane” our country relies partially on the imports from authoritarian regimes when the US could use solutions that are closer to home and establish energy independence. However, she then said there’s “a lot of talk about why we don’t go green.”

Experts have widely debated whether or not the US has truly ever been energy independent. Meanwhile, the nation has been at odds about how to deal with the ban and rising prices. Republicans are advocating for more oil drilling inside the US, while most Democrats are supporting a push for green initiatives. Vice President Kamala Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg recently received backlash for pushing electric vehicles when people can barely afford to fill their cars with gasoline, let alone afford to purchase an electric vehicle.
Many left and right advocates alike seem to agree that action is needed to address this issue. But are green solutions the answer right now, or should Americans be pushing for cheaper ways to get oil and gas?
