Someone Planted Explosive Device at Councilwoman's Home, Police Say

EXPLOSIVE Found Near Official’s Home – Police Rush In!

( – Law enforcement confirmed the discovery of a live explosive outside the home of San Jose Councilwoman Dev Davis on June 14. Police say it’s unknown whether Davis was the target or if this was a random incident. A neighbor, Richard Martinez, found the device, and assuming it was a bomb, he called authorities.

Martinez described it as a package wrapped in tape with a fuse and batteries. He said the fuse appeared lit.

Officers responded to the Willow Glen neighborhood and evacuated the Davis family and nearby neighbors as a precautionary measure that morning. The bomb unit removed the device around 11:00 am without further issue. Authorities identified it as a homemade explosive.

In a statement, Davis said she was “seriously disturbed” by the incident. She claimed such acts “[erode] our democracy” and prevent people from wanting to serve in public office.

Davis has been a member of the city council since 2016. She ran for mayor in the 2022 primary but didn’t win. One week before this incident, someone blew up one of her campaign signs in a neighbor’s yard with a firecracker.

Officers continue to investigate the situation, but they have not publicly identified suspects or made arrests. Law enforcement has increased patrols in the neighborhood.
