(ConservativeHub.com) – On May 22, NAACP President Derrick Johnson stated that the Democrats needed to get “rid” of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2024 presidential election. According to CNN, he said his organization was working to alter the political landscape.

The statements about getting “rid” of DeSantis “once and for all” came after NAACP released a formal advisory for the state of Florida in which they discouraged travel to the state because of its hostile attitude towards people of color and the LGBTQ+ community.

Johnson proceeded to state that the “othering” that had first been depicted by Trump and now by DeSantis through his policies go against the values that were used for the foundation of the country.

In a press release following the advisory, the NAACP wrote that the advisory was a direct response to the policies followed by DeSantis which were seeking to “erase Black history” and “restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in Florida schools.” The group proceeded to point toward many of the recent bills that DeSantis has signed into law as evidence of his hostility, including his ban on funding for DEI programs at public universities within the state.

The Florida chapter of the NAACP had proposed the idea of a travel advisory a few months ago, following the “anti-black legislation” that had been passed in the state.

However, DeSantis dismissed the proposed travel advisory in March calling it a “joke.” Following the release of the advisory, DeSantis was quick to claim that it was just a “stunt” and that people could choose to waste their time on it.

DeSantis officially announced his campaign for president on May 24.
