Police Announce EMERGENCY Rules – Guess What They’re For!
(ConservativeHub.com) – Earlier this year, the US Supreme Court ruled in NY State Rifle & Pistol Association v Bruen that New York’s requirement for applicants to show probable cause when obtaining a concealed carry license violated the Second Amendment. To abide by the decision, the New York Assembly removed the offending clause. Yet, they added more restrictions on those who wish to secure a permit with a new set of emergency rules.
On August 24, the New York Police Department (NYPD) announced the new process for securing a concealed carry permit based on the Supreme Court ruling and the state penal code changes. New requirements added by lawmakers include providing four character references and a list of current and former social media accounts for the last three years.
Anyone wishing to obtain a license must also complete an in-person interview and get a firearm safety course certificate. Gun instructors used to be able to waive the requirement for the safety course, but lawmakers decided to remove that option, requiring everyone, even those who teach such classes, to complete one if they wish to secure a concealed carry license.
The NYPD also said anyone who received a denial under the old rules could reapply for the permit within 60 days without repaying fees, CBS News reported. The new restrictions go into effect on September 1.
