(ConservativeHub.com) – On Sunday, July 14, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) slammed an anonymous “senior Democrat” who had been quoted stating that the Democrats were “resigned” to another Trump administration for four years.
In a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Ocasio-Cortez argued that the person who made these comments needed to “absolutely retire” from their Congressional position. She added that if you were a “senior Democrat” who was feeling this way, then you needed to retire and allow for more space for “true leadership.” She indicated that this type of leadership should be that which “refuses” to give in to “fascism.”
She said anything less is a kind of leadership that is “functionally useless” to U.S. citizens. In one word, she then called for the person who had made this statement to “retire.”
These recent remarks came as a response to an Axios report relating to the shift within the party, with some Democrats claiming they were putting more effort into their staff’s personal safety, as opposed to on President Joe Biden and his place as the Democratic nominee.
An unidentified senior House Democrat was quoted in the report saying that they had all resigned themselves to a second term in former President Donald Trump’s office.
Following Saturday’s assassination attempt against Trump, both the Democrats and the Republicans have signaled an effort to appear united, The Hill reported.
The Biden campaign in response to the incident also took down political advertising and paused all political activity for a time.
