(ConservativeHub.com) – On September 24, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) slammed Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) but avoided directly answering a question on whether she would vote to have him ousted in a case where a motion to vacate was introduced by a far-right member of his conference.
In an interview on CBS News’s “Face the Nation,” Ocasio-Cortez was questioned about whether she would vote alongside lawmakers such as Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who is against McCarthy. However, she declined to give a straight “yes” or “no,” saying she would have to see what happened if the situation arose.
Ocasio-Cortez pointed out that this is a decision that would require the Democratic caucus to come together and collectively decide on their stance. She added that she “absolutely” believes that there are sufficient grounds to have a vote to oust the Speaker. She proceeded to call him a “very weak” leader and said that his weakness is part of the reason for the potential government shutdown.
She said that the fact that they were close to a government shutdown was even further reason for a vote to oust McCarthy to take place. However, she added that the Republican party is currently very chaotic which is not what Washington needs right now.
The government is going to reach the end-of-fiscal year deadline on Friday. According to reports, the Senate recently pushed forward a shell bill that could fund the government through more than the first half of November. However, it’s unclear how the bill will do in the House.
