(ConservativeHub.com) – Demiah Appling had supper with her grandmother, left the house in Old Town, Florida, on foot, and disappeared into the night on October 16. Her grandmother never saw the 14-year-old alive again. On December 16, the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that it positively identified remains found on December 5 as hers. The office stated the cause of death was murder.
Appling’s family filed a missing person report on October 24. Investigators determined that she likely left the area the same night she disappeared and departed in a vehicle. They suspect she vanished around 9:30 PM, when she was last seen.

Officers considered her disappearance suspicious from the get-go and implored the public for help. Subsequently, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a Missing Child Alert on November 3. The criteria for such an alert showed how worried officers were for Appling’s safety. Obtaining the designation requires strong evidence to suggest the child is at risk for serious injury or death. It differs from an Amber Alert because it doesn’t require proof of kidnapping. As of December 19, the state had two active missing child alerts.
Despite finding the teen’s body, authorities don’t have any suspects in the case. The investigation is ongoing.
