(ConservativeHub.com) – People go missing all the time, and while some families obtain resolutions, others never find out what happened to their loved ones. After 45 years, a missing person case finally seems to have an explanation, but it is a little too late for the parents who never gave up on finding their son.
On January 27, 1976, Kyle Wade Clinkscales, a 22-year-old Auburn University student, disappeared. He was traveling from LaGrange, Georgia, back to the school in his 1974 Ford Pinto, but nobody ever saw or heard from him after that night. On December 7, 2021, authorities with the Chamber County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama discovered a submerged car off County Road 38 after a 911 call.

On the scene, officers found a Ford with a Georgia tag from 1976. Upon further inspection, they matched the VIN to Clinkscales car, thus solving one piece of the decades-long mystery. They also found remains and property in the vehicle, confirming the student’s identity.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will complete their processing of the vehicle. Officials are still trying to confirm how Clinkscales died.
While the discovery was a huge relief to law enforcement, Clinkscales’ parents aren’t alive to learn the news. His father passed away in 2007, and his mother earlier in 2021. It’s a bittersweet ending; his parents didn’t live to find out what happened to their only child.
