(ConservativeHub.com) – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is facing calls to resign from significant number of Americans, according to a new Redfield & Wilton Strategies poll that was released by Newsweek. This comes amid growing concerns about McConnell’s ability to serve, particularly after he had to be led away from his podium in July because he froze up during a press conference.

According to the poll, 64 percent of eligible American voters believe that McConnell needs to resign. Of those, around 39 percent “strongly agree” with his resignation while 25 percent agree. Only eight percent of respondents opposed the idea of McConnell resigning, out of whom only three “strongly disagree.” Out of the remaining respondents, 21 percent stated that they were neutral about the idea of his resignation while seven percent stated that they did not know if he should resign.

The poll also found that both Biden and Trump voters wanted to see McConnel step down. Specifically, 71 percent of Trump 2020 voters called for McConnell’s resignation while only six percent stated that he should continue to serve. Among Biden voters, 64 percent wanted to see the McConnell resign, while nine percent claimed that he should stay in office.

In a different question, 42 percent of voters stated that they were “very concerned”, 23 percent were “fairly concerned” and 18 percent were “slightly concerned” about whether McConnell was able to carry out his duties in the Senate given his age. However, nine percent of respondents argued that this was not at all a concern for them.

The poll was conducted on August 5 and 6 and included 1,500 “eligible voters” from across the country.
