(ConservativeHub.com) – According to Newsweek, 62 percent of American participants in a new poll are supportive President Joe Biden’s student loan debt forgiveness plan. The survey further showed that the percentage of supporters was higher for those aged between 25 and 34, with 82 percent supporting the plan.

According to the poll, around 18 percent of Americans were against the plan completely, while 16 percent did not hold a firm position on whether or not they supported the plan or not.

The poll also showed that about half of participants who backed former President Donald Trump were also backing the plan that Biden had proposed to reduce or completely wipe off federal student loans.

During his 2020 presidential campaign, Biden made plans to cancel $10,000 in federal student loans for those with an annual income that falls under $125,000 or for those with an annual household income of less than $250,000. According to Biden’s current plan, Pell Grant recipients would be eligible to get double that amount canceled, getting a total debt cancellation of $20,000.

However, Biden’s student loan cancellation plan is currently facing legal troubles as a group of Republican-led states and lawmakers in Congress have criticized the plan and the effect it would have on the government’s budget. The Supreme Court has also heard oral arguments in the case brought forth against student loan forgiveness. It is believed that they will announce a decision by June.

The survey was conducted for Newsweek by Redfield and Wilton Strategies, which surveyed 1,500 eligible voters on behalf of Newsweek.
