(ConservativeHub.com) – President Joe Biden’s approach to border security is completely different from that of his predecessor. For instance, Biden began his term in office by revoking former President Donald Trump’s emergency declaration in relation to the nation’s southern border and halting future construction of the border wall. A couple of Republican lawmakers are now pushing back against new immigration guidance set to go into effect at the end of November 2021.
On Tuesday, October 26, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and House Oversight Committee ranking member James Comer (R-KY) sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas demanding information and documents regarding the Guidelines for the Enforcement of Civil Immigration Law scheduled to go into effect on November 29. The guidance is designed to refocus the attention of border security on felons or immigrants who pose national security risks, but critics are concerned that it prevents ICE agents from properly enforcing the law.

The letter noted that a similar interim order limiting interior immigration enforcement by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials resulted in a greater than 60% decrease in arrests and removals. The letter also stated the decline in enforcement efforts was “unacceptable” and demonstrated the Biden administration’s intention to ignore resources granted to ICE by Congress to “duly enforce” immigration laws.
