(ConservativeHub.com) – The GOP is hoping that Sen JD Vance (R-Ohio), 39, who was announced as former President Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick during the Republican National Convention, will help appeal to younger voters.

Although the Democrats have argued that Vance’s platform is not in alignment with younger voters’ views, the Republicans have maintained that Trump’s running mate could potentially bring in more young voters.

According to The Hill, chair of Wisconsin Young Republicans Kyle Schroeder, 28, stated that it is a “breath of fresh air” to have Vance, a younger candidate, take such a prominent position in a presidential campaign.

On Monday, July 15, Trump ended months of speculation regarding who his vice presidential pick would be. Vance was considered one of the top three finalists for the position, along with North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). Still, there are limitations to how many people Vance might attract as a Republican Senator from Ohio whose views are in alignment with the core of the Republican base. This is at a time when the GOP is trying to find a way to approach more voters of color and get them to support the Republican ticket, which currently has two white men.

Age is reportedly considered one of the benefits with Vance, as he is significantly younger than Trump, President Joe Biden, 81, who dropped out of the presidential race, and Vice President Kamala Harris, 59. Republicans believe that Vance’s age is going to appeal to younger voters, which could be an important voting bloc in determining who will win the White House in November.

Conservative youth group Run Gen Z executive director and co-founder Mason Morgan argued that this was a great pick for younger people in the United States, regardless of everyone’s ideology, adding that Vance’s story and life are going to show young voters which of the two presidential tickets is truly looking to the future. He also said he believes the new VP candidate will help inspire young individuals in politics.

A report from The New York Times described Vance as an “ambitious ideologue” who can “energize donors” and stands the best chance of carrying Trump’s movement beyond another term in office.
