(ConservativeHub.com) – While Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has not made any announcements nor has he hinted that he will be running in the 2024 election, he has managed to emerge as the GOP’s early front-runner according to many polls.

As a result, DeSantis has now found himself at the center of negative attention from many of his fellow GOP members who are either planning on running for the presidency themselves or who have allies already in the running. While this behavior is not unusual in itself, it does show that many, including allies of former President Donald Trump, are viewing DeSantis as a big threat.

A January 12 article from The Hill reports that Keith Naughton, a veteran Republican strategist, has said that all this newfound traction and attention clearly displays that in the eyes of most Republicans, DeSantis is the biggest threat. He also argued that they are trying to find ways to stop the momentum that DeSantis has managed to generate, but that it is not that easy to do that.

In a recent statement, Ian Fury, a spokesperson for South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, directly criticized DeSantis for not taking more actions toward restricting abortions in Florida, saying a 15-week ban doesn’t go far enough.

This was a reference to a bill that DeSantis signed the previous year in which he banned abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy. However, he has remained open to the possibility of enacting even stricter prohibitions. Fury has questioned DeSantis’s decision on this asking whether the Florida governor did not believe that 14-week-old fetuses did not deserve life.
