Republicans Wants DHS Chief to Step Down

( – Despite rumblings of infighting within the Republican Party, it seems they’ve managed to come together to address a common threat. Earlier this month, nearly 50 House Republicans called for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ resignation — and that’s not all. Now, states attorneys general are getting in on the action, too.

On Tuesday, February 22, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody sent a letter to Mayorkas demanding his resignation due to failures at the border and national security matters. Thirteen other states’ AGs signed the letter, claiming that Mayorkas has taken “actions impairing the safety and security of Americans.” In January 2022, there were reportedly 153,941 attempted migrant crossings, nearly double the number of the same period last year.

In addition to addressing the Biden Administration’s failure at the US-Mexico border, the correspondence also addresses the ever-increasing amount of fentanyl seized – “an increase of over 30 percent since before [he] took office.” Authorities have attributed a shocking number of overdoses, at least in part, to the drug because it’s fatal in small doses, and most people don’t know they’re consuming it.

On February 11, Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK) led the charge in sending a letter to Mayorkas. The correspondence, which 45 other GOP members signed, also called for the Homeland Security secretary’s resignation.

It seems Republicans have had enough of the laissez-faire attitude. With three more years of the Biden Administration, removing problem children now could be critical to maintaining the nation’s security.
