(ConservativeHub.com) – The Second Amendment Foundation has revealed that it intends to defend the concealed carry license of former President Donald Trump following his recent conviction in the New York hush money trial.

Alan M. Gottlieb, the Executive Vice President and founder of SAF, stated in a press release on June 6 that his gun rights foundation would “challenge the law” if Trump is “further prosecuted for owning firearms.”

New York law currently mandates that convicted felons are not allowed to have permits to carry firearms. If a convicted felon is in possession of a firearm, they may be charged with a federal crime.

According to Gottlieb, the SAF has always stood for people being allowed to retain their gun rights if they are convicted of crime that didn’t involve violence.

Following Trump’s indictment in April 2023 in the New York case, his firearm license was suspended. News outlets have recently reported that he is expected to have his license completely revoked now that he has been found guilty in court.

However, Gottlieb has opposed this, pointing out that Trump does not have a history of violent crime and that Trump should not lose his Second Amendment Rights. He further argued that in the 2022 Bruen ruling, the Supreme Court determined that gun laws needed some “analogous connection to historical regulation” when the Constitution was written. As a result, he believes there is no reason that Trump should be prevented from carrying a firearm.
