(ConservativeHub.com) – On Friday, July 19, a nationwide technology outage resulted in thousands of flights being grounded. The global system shutdown was caused by a bug in the security software company CrowdStrike and affected many industries, including transportation.

On Monday, three days after the outage, Delta was still experiencing trouble with recovering its systems. Reports say that on that day, 690 flights were canceled and 420 others were delayed. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg called the company out for the continuing the cancellations and delays days after the incident.

On Friday and Saturday, Delta had around 1,200 flights canceled each day, while on Sunday, the number of canceled flights was over 1,300.

Over the weekend, Buttigieg took to the social media platform X to note that they had received multiple reports about Delta Air Lines relating to the delays, cancellations, and flight disruptions while many customers have also complained about the low levels of customer service. He added that his office informed Delta that it would be held accountable for all applicable passenger protections, and noted that the company should be providing refunds and the appropriate hotel accommodations to passengers who were stranded as a result of the cancellations.

Buttigieg noted that there should not be anyone who is stuck overnight in an airport or waiting for hours before they can talk to a customer service agent.

On Sunday, Delta CEO Ed Bastian released a statement apologizing for the disruptions, while noting that the CrowdStrike tech outage had affected many of its computer systems, including its crew management software.
