(ConservativeHub.com) – Former President Donald Trump’s attorneys have filed an appeal against the ruling of New York Judge Arthur Engoron which found him to be liable for paying over $450 million in a New York civil fraud case.
The case had been brought forward against Trump by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who claimed that Trump and the Trump Organization had been defrauding banks and insurers by falsely inflating and deflating assets in order to gain access to better deals.
Trump is currently expected to pay $454 million, with a judge recently ruling that he could not put off posting the entire judgment while he appeals it. Engoron previously ruled that Trump and the other defendants in this case have been liable for “falsifying business records,” “conspiracy to falsify false financial statements,” and “issuing false financial statements,” among other charges.
The judge blasted Trump’s behavior during the trial and claimed that he had rarely answered any of the questions that he was being asked. He further claimed that Trump would often go off on “irrelevant speeches” on issues that were completely unrelated to the trial’s scope.
Engoron further said that Trump’s refusal to answer any of the questions directly had “compromised” his credibility.
Christopher Kise, Trump’s attorney, stated during his decision earlier this month that there was an appeal plan that they were considering. They added that the court had “ignored the law,” “the facts” and had just taken part in an “unjust political crusade” against the former President.
