Trump’s Endorsement of Jimmy Patronis

Trump praised Patronis for his tenure as Florida’s Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshall, asserting that Patronis would make significant contributions to the MAGA agenda. Trump stated his support on the Truth Social platform, offering his “Complete and Total Endorsement.”
Following Trump’s endorsement, Patronis announced that he would be resigning from his position as Florida’s CFO on March 31. This will take place just one day before the Special General Election. Matt Gaetz’s Departure from Congress
Matt Gaetz’s resignation came after his nomination for Attorney General by Trump, a role he later withdrew from amid allegations of misconduct. Gaetz’s resignation coincided with the House Ethics Committee’s impending release of a damaging report against him, which was ultimately not published. He does not plan to return to Congress and may explore a career in media.
Gaetz had been a controversial figure, and his departure sets the stage for a competitive race in the conservative district of Florida’s Panhandle, anchored by Pensacola. Known for its solid Republican voter base, the district will likely remain in Republican control.
The Shape of the Upcoming Race
Jimmy Patronis, who has served as Florida’s CFO since 2017, is a staunch Trump ally and owner of a seafood restaurant. Trump highlighted Patronis as someone who would diligently work alongside to grow the economy, secure borders, and support the Second Amendment. Nine other Republicans have shown interest in running as well.
Patronis’s campaign will likely focus on ending what he calls the “swamp” and lawfare, promising a return of power to Americans. His decision to run will be pivotal for his career and potentially reshape the political landscape in Florida’s district.
