(ConservativeHub.com) – Former President Donald Trump reportedly offered current President Joe Biden the opportunity to “redeem himself” in a second presidential debate this past week.
Trump made the offer during a rally on Tuesday, July 9, in Doral, Florida.
At the rally, Trump gave Biden a lifeline, saying he was offering Biden “the chance to redeem himself in front of the entire world.”
Trump suggested at the time that Republican Senator Marco Rubio (Florida) and Florida GOP Rep. Byron Donald could be referees in a debate conducted later in the week that would allow “sleepy Joe Biden” the ability to prove himself to everyone “that he has what it takes to be president.”
However, Trump gave two conditions for the debate he was proposing, stating it had to be “man to man” without moderators and “no holds barred,” calling on Biden to “name the place, anytime, anywhere.”
Rubio, reportedly one of Trump’s three VP finalists, also spoke before Trump at the rally, later featuring when Trump acknowledged the amount of press at the Doral rally.
Trump noted the press was “probably expecting” him to announce Rubio as his running mate. He later said Rubio might not be in the Senate to vote for his plan to nix taxes on tips, but would still “be involved.”
Reports surfaced that Trump might announce his running mate before the Republican National Convention starts on July 15 in Milwaukee.
Trump also used his speech to challenge Biden to an “18-hole golf match,” pointing out that Biden had suggested the pair test their stamina on the golf course at the end of the June 27 debate.
Trump initially suggested holding the follow-up debate this past week, but nothing else was announced. It is unclear whether Biden will take Trump up on the challenge.
Regardless, at least one more debate is scheduled for the two candidates in September.
