(ConservativeHub.com) – Former President Donald Trump claimed during a campaign rally in Clive, Iowa that he was ready to “go to jail” in order to protect U.S. democracy. According to Newsweek, this statement was made after a judge imposed a limited gag order against Trump in his Jan. 6 federal case.

The restrictions placed by Judge Tanya Chutkan mean that the former President is blocked from making any remarks that attack the court staff, prosecutors, and any possible witnesses in this case. Trump previously pleaded not guilty to all four charges filed against him by Special Counsel Jack Smith in connection to the case. He has also frequently claimed that the legal cases against him were politically motivated.

Trump’s legal team has also claimed that any gag order, which is fairly common in criminal cases, would be a violation of the former’s First Amendment rights considering his presidential bid. Trump’s campaign team has alleged that Biden is behind the gag order request.

During his campaign, Trump even suggested that the imposition of the narrow gag order was part of the attempt to block him from winning the presidency next year. He further argued that in order to keep U.S. democracy safe, he was willing to be jailed, if that’s “what it takes.”

Trump has claimed that others were losing badly in the polls, which is why they thought the only way to stop him was through blocking him from speaking.

On Friday, October 20, Judge Arthur Engoron, who is presiding over Trump’s civil fraud trial, revealed that he ordered Trump to take down a social media post slamming the judge’s law clerk. Engoron said this was a violation of his gag order in that case and threatened “serious sanctions” or imprisonment if the defiance continued.
