(ConservativeHub.com) – On March 2, the Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 92, which was sponsored by state Senator Randy Robertson in a 32-24 vote. According to Newsweek, the bill would go after “rogue prosecutors” through the creation of an oversight committee that would be capable of removing elected district attorneys over misconduct or the failure to properly address certain kinds of crimes.

Former President Donald Trump praised this bill. During the weekend after its passage, he took to Truth Social, saying the move would be great for Georgia. He also praised the state’s legislative body for acting so “boldly, fairly, and fast.”

Trump was under investigation in Georgia regarding his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis is currently considering whether or not criminal charges against Trump need to be filed in regard to this case.

A second bill, which has not yet passed, was filed by state Rep. Houston Gaines. The bill, which is currently unlikely to be approved, would allow prosecutors to be recalled with a much smaller percentage of the vote.

These bills are under consideration at the same time that Willis is deciding whether or not to bring charges against Trump. Trump has consistently called out the investigation that Willis is leading and has called it a “witch hunt,” according to Newsweek. The outlet notes that Willis’ position as a district attorney could also be hanging on a thread depending on how the committee decides to handle her case and whether or not she is found to have failed her duty.

Willis has called out these bills, stating that for “hundreds of years,” prosecutors have existed without the need for these bills, which appeared as she is nearing the end of her investigation on Trump.
