(ConservativeHub.com) – Former President Donald Trump said he believes it will be “easier” to beat Vice President Kamala Harris than President Joe Biden.
Speaking to CNN on Sunday, July 21, the Republican presidential nominee said: “Harris will be easier to beat than Joe Biden would have been.”
Later, Trump, alongside his campaign, took to social media to lambast Biden and Harris, suggesting Biden is unfit to continue his term in office.
Trump’s statements come after Biden withdrew from the Presidential race. A number of prominent Democrats had called for him to step aside. Many Democratic voters and leaders appeared to lose confidence in Biden’s ability to beat Trump following his performance at the June 29 debate.
Shortly after announcing his withdrawal from the race, Biden gave Harris his endorsement for the Democratic Party’s Presidential nominee.
Since his debate performance late in June, Democrats had started distancing themselves from his Presidential campaign amid growing doubts he would be capable of defeating Trump and completing a second term in the Oval Office.
Following Biden’s withdrawal, Trump took to Truth Social, posting that Biden had not been “fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) also suggested that if Biden was stepping aside in the presidential race, it indicated he couldn’t serve as President. Johnson said that the president should resign.
Trump also noted that while the country would “suffer greatly because of [Biden’s] presidency,” under his leadership, the damage would be remedied “very quickly.”
Biden and Trump were tied in many polls, with Trump only taking the lead after Biden’s showing at the June 29 debate.
According to sources close to Trump’s campaign, the GOP Presidential nominee’s campaign had already discussed redeploying campaign resources should Biden drop out of the race.
Harris has already received the support of many Democrats for her campaign, and it has been reported that she already has enough backing from delegates to secure the party nomination in August. Recent polling indicates that her approval rates are similar to or slightly better than Biden’s, though time will tell if she takes the nomination and proves a match for Trump.
