(ConservativeHub.com) – United Auto Workers blasted former President Donald Trump, who officially became the Republican party’s nominee last week, after he pushed for Shawn Fain, the president of the union, to be fired for allowing carmakers to have factories abroad.

On Thursday, July 18, during his speech at the Republican National Convention, Trump took the opportunity to accuse China of manufacturing vehicles in Mexico and selling them in the United States without any taxes.

He continued by arguing that United Auto Workers should be ashamed that they have allowed something like that to happen, and that the union’s president needs to be immediately fired. He proceeded to state that all union and nonunion autoworkers should be voting for Trump. He said he plans to bring car manufacturing back to the US quickly.

In a post on X, shortly after the speech, the union argued that Trump is a billionaire and a “scab” and that this is exactly who he is representing. They added that they knew which side they were on, and it was certainly not Trump’s.

In January, the UAW endorsed President Joe Biden in the presidential race while both candidates were trying to win the support of the union. The endorsement came after a six-week UAW strike against the three biggest automakers in the country last fall. Biden visited the picket line in Michigan during the strike.

Fain argued when announcing the endorsement that Biden had “heard the call” and that he “showed up,” while Trump, on the other hand, was a representation of everything that their union took against.
