US Against Defunding Police Despite Democrat Efforts, Poll Says

( – Calls to “Defund the Police” have rung out across the country for the last 13+ months in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of former police officer Derek Chauvin. Chauvin recently received a 22.5-year sentence, but the calls to strip much-needed funding from law enforcement agencies continue.

On June 29, Rasmussen Reports published the results of a new poll showing that nearly one in every five Americans support the idea of defunding the police. Despite the best efforts of BLM activists and progressives, however, slightly more than half of potential US voters say police departments should receive additional funding. Nearly a quarter of the participants said they thought law enforcement funding should stay the same.

It appears that statistical evidence favors those individuals who want increased funding for the police. Breitbart News reported that city lawmakers in Oakland, California, recently voted to reintroduce $3.3 million in funds back to its police department’s budget after the city recorded a rise in homicides from 13 to 41 in year-on-year figures by mid-April.

New York City recently reinstated over $90 million in funds after the number of shootings there increased from 295 to 531 during the first three months of 2021 compared with the same period in 2020. Los Angeles, California, and Baltimore, Maryland have also started restoring funding to their respective police departments.

Rasmussen conducted the poll on June 24 and June 27, and it has an error margin of +/- 3%.
