US Supreme Court Urged To Dismiss Case

(ConservativeHub.com) – In a filing on March 20, North Carolina urged the U.S. Supreme Court to dismiss a notable case from North Carolina that could provide state politicians more control over state elections. North Carolina argued that because the case is still under consideration by a lower court, it should be tossed by SCOTUS. However, the Republican lawmakers involved in the situation opposed this viewpoint.

The disagreement is particularly important as this case could have a great effect on U.S. elections in the future, Reuters reported. The case originates from legal case involving a map that was drawn by Republican lawmakers in North Carolina. It was later blocked by the court as it was found to be redrawn in a way that could have disadvantaged Democrats.

North Carolina’s Department of Justice had stated that it has now been decided that the North Carolina Supreme Court is going to be reexamining its ruling in this case from last year. This decision means that there is no final judgment in place for the US Supreme Court to review.

The state, therefore, claims that the federal Supreme Court needs to drop the case due to “lack of jurisdiction.” Currently, there is no final decision on the case from the state court.

According to Reuters, a number of the plaintiffs involved along with state Congressmembers who defended the redrawn map, however, have urged the Justices to still review and make a decision on the case.

What do you think? Should SCOTUS get involved in this legal dispute?
