Veterans Speak Out Amid Blowback Against American Flag

( – So-called “woke America” and its accompanying “cancel culture” have taken the country by storm. Victims of cancel culture typically include noted celebrities like MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, who nearly 20 retail companies reportedly dumped for publicly questioning the results of the 2020 presidential election. Now, it appears the practice has been expanded to include, of all things, the American flag.

The entire country has witnessed athletes refusing to stand for the national anthem and turning their backs on the American flag at opening ceremonies. Also, noted R&B singer Macy Gray wrote an article for MarketWatch last month calling for a new flag. The New York Times has published multiple articles describing the American flag as a dated symbol dividing Americans, as have other left-leaning media outlets.

Several veterans and related groups and organizations are speaking out about efforts to disrespect the American flag. For example, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) has been vocal about media claims that the flag is divisive.

Tom Kilgannon, the head of veterans group Freedom Alliance, told reporters that attacks aimed at the American flag are disrespectful toward veterans. He pointed out that the American flag is draped across the caskets of America’s fallen heroes when they go to their final resting place.

The American flag is steeped in the nation’s history, and, like the country, it has changed with time. Should a few celebrities and athletes push Americans to throw all that away?
