(ConservativeHub.com) – On Wednesday, July 17, Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, took the stage at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee where he took the opportunity to praise former President Donald Trump and speak about pushing Trump’s economic policies. As reported by Newsmax, he was slated to be seen as the “inheritor” of Trump’s MAGA movement.
Trump recently announced the 39-year-old first-time senator as his vice-presidential pick, an indication that he is looking into the future and how his movement can continue to expand even after his time in power comes to an end, according to Newsmax. Even if Trump wins another term in office on November 5, he still will only be able to serve until 2029.
Vance is going to be working in the following months to reassure those who question his MAGA credentials and bring in voters who were previously skeptical of the former President to their side in the upcoming election. Vance, who is now a strong defender of the former President, in the past made a comparison between Trump and Adolf Hitler.
Conservative commentator Erick Erickson argued that Vance, who rose in prominence after the release of his bestselling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” can bring Trump’s ideas to a crowd of people that would otherwise not understand the former President. Erickson told Reuters that Vance would be able to “explain his agenda.” He also indicated that Vance could bring “intellectual firepower” to the conversation.
He said the MAGA agenda is loosely a type of economic populism that places the focus on the middle class.
University of Pennsylvania political science lecturer Damon Linker argued that in the hands of Trump, the MAGA movement was just about instincts and grievances, but that in the hands of Vance, it could become far bigger. He said the wrong successor could lead to the movement dying with Trump.
