(ConservativeHub.com) – Under intense scrutiny for the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Biden White House decided to send out free test kits to every American. While this move garnered the president some pats on the back, a revelation about where the government bought many of the tests from is causing some backlash.
During her February 2 press briefing, the White House Press Secretary had to fend off a question about why the Biden Administration signed the largest test kit contract for $1.3 billion with iHealth, a subsidiary of Chinese-owned Andon Health. In response, Psaki said the White House had to meet a timely need, and they chose to do it through any means possible.

Jen Psaki said that because there was a US test shortage and a high demand, they had to buy them from whoever had them available, which happened to be iHealth.
However, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) fired back at Psaki’s comments, blaming the Biden administration for not helping US companies prepare to fulfill the orders. Biden’s failure to push out the free test kits earlier left these manufacturers in a bad spot, forced to lay off or furlough employees. Collins pointed to Abbott Labs as an example in her state. The company didn’t have enough orders to keep on all its employees. If the president hadn’t dragged his feet, waiting until Omicron surged, US manufacturers would have been ready and able to meet any test kit needs.
Other critics of the purchasing decision said China doesn’t deserve to make money off a pandemic that many alleged it facilitated. Representative Don Bacon (R-NE) finds the iHealth contract ludicrous, considering China has never been open about the virus’s origins. Representative Michael Waltz (R-FL) said it is crazy to pay the country that helped spread the virus to the world.
