(ConservativeHub.com) – On April 19, the White House criticized a House Oversight Committee hearing looking into the withdrawal from Afghanistan, stating that the hearings are “political stunts.”

According to a report from The Hill, White House official Ian Sams issued a memo prior to the hearing, which took place the same day, writing that the Republicans on the committee would be trying to “distract from their own failures” regarding options that would have helped move Americans and Afghan allies out of the country.

Sams specifically noted that MAGA House Republicans are not willing to “acknowledge their own history” of standing against help for allies from Afghanistan. He said they are instead choosing to turn “their backs” on America’s allies that helped the country for 20 years. He further pointed out that Republicans have delayed legislation, such as the Afghan Adjustment Act, which shows “that these hearings are nothing more than political stunts” intended to target President Joe Biden.

The Afghan Adjustment Act is designed to help provide aid and support to Afghan allies who provided assistance to the US over the years. This would allow for a special immigration status to be provided to allies and others in need.

The White House also stated that they were expecting GOP members to claim that the White House obstructed oversight. However, a Pentagon report was provided to Congress in April which looks into the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan nearly two years ago. In that report, a lot of the blame for the chaotic nature of the withdrawal was placed on the Trump administration.
