WHO Headed to China to Investigate COVID Origins

(ConservativeHub.com) – It’s no secret that President Donald Trump doesn’t care much for the World Health Organization (WHO) or the People’s Republic of China. With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, both entities came together with a resounding crash that could be heard worldwide.

President Trump swiftly dubbed the disease the “China Virus,” and rightly so, since it reportedly originated in Wuhan, China. Frustrated with the WHO’s mishandling of the pandemic and its close relations with communist China, the president announced over the summer that the United States would officially withdraw from the organization, effective on July 6, 2021.

Then, on September 3, 2020, the State Department updated the status of the US withdrawal, stating the US would immediately redirect financial aid away from the WHO to fund other United Nations operations partially.

Additionally, the US recalled federal officials working within the WHO’s headquarters and other offices. Future participation in WHO activities and meetings will be decided upon as situations arise.

WHO Sends Team to China

Reuters reported on December 16 that the WHO will send an international mission to China to investigate the coronavirus pandemic’s origins. A team of about a dozen experts is expected to travel to Wuhan, China, in the first week of January 2021.

The team will examine animal and human specimens collected by Chinese scientists to understand the virus’s early development and spread better.

The operative question remains: Why did the WHO wait so long to investigate the COVID-19 pandemic? It’s not like President Trump shied away from expressing his displeasure about its inaction regarding China. The world might have taken a more proactive approach in the fight against COVID-19 had the WHO done its job like the president always insisted.
