(ConservativeHub.com) – The Supreme Court is currently considering the legality of President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness program. However, if SCOTUS ends up siding against the program, it could upend his promise to young voters, according to The Hill.
Last week, Biden said that he was confident that their program was legal. The plan is to have up to $20,000 in federal student loans canceled for many U.S. citizens. However, despite feeling confident about the legality of the program, Biden has admitted that in the conservative-leaning court, he did not feel as confident about what the decision of the Supreme Court will be.
The Hill reports that John Paul Mejia, chief national spokesperson of the Sunrise Movement, questioned how Biden will go about fulfilling his promises to the young voters in the country. He added that there was still a lot of work to be done in that regard.
While Biden admitted last week that he was uncertain about whether the case will go through or not, he has not yet made an outline of what the administration’s Plan B could be. This has caused significant buzz in the media about what alternate paths he could take if the original plan falls through.
On March 6, Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that currently, their plan is to defend their case in front of the Supreme Court. However, some strategists, like Michael Starr Hopkins, seem to believe an unfavorable SCOTUS decision could end up helping Biden. According to The Hill, he believes it might “further the anger at Republicans” among youths, and that Biden should be prepared to use this against the GOP in 2024.
