Will Recent Supreme Court Rulings Help Democrats Win?

(ConservativeHub.com) – According to a recent report from The Hill, the decisions made by the Supreme Court in recent days may be shaping up to impact the 2024 elections. While President Joe Biden has been struggling with his popularity, the outlet reports that current conditions may help Democrats keep a hold on the Senate.

At the end of June, the Supreme Court rejected Biden’s student loan forgiveness program, opposed affirmative action protocols in college admissions, and sanctioned the refusal of services to same-sex marriages by small businesses.

While these verdicts might appeal to a conservative audience, they may simultaneously present the Democrats with a platform to leverage these instances as counterarguments against the GOP and the prevailing conservative leanings of the court. Previously, a 6-3 conservative ruling of the court had resulted in the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the landmark abortion rights case. The Hill reported that Democrats could make the argument that the conservative majority in the court was caused by GOP control in the Senate, and that this is what led to the Roe v. Wade decision.

The present makeup of the Supreme Court is largely attributed to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). He reportedly helped ensure that the seat of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, who passed away, remained unoccupied for long enough to prevent then-President Barack Obama from placing another justice in her seat.

McConnell also had a hand in accelerating the confirmation of conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett back in 2020. These two additional conservative seats proved instrumental in creating the 6-3 conservative majority, which, without McConnell’s intervention, could have been a 5-4 Democratic majority.

However, the court’s recent conservative verdicts may end up helping the Democrats more than the Republicans in electoral outcomes.
