Woman's Remains Identified After Nearly 3 Decades

Human Remains IDENTIFIED After Nearly 30 Years Of Waiting

(ConservativeHub.com) – Missing person cases are always difficult as, sometimes, friends and family never obtain closure. Yet, the next of kin of Washington resident Susan Hoppes received word investigators identified her remains almost three decades after her disappearance. Here’s the story.

On August 9, 1993, people close to Hoppes reported her as a missing person after she mysteriously disappeared in the middle of the night, but authorities found no leads as to her whereabouts. A year later, on July 7, 1994, a hiker found human remains in Windy Point, Colorado, but police were unable to determine the deceased’s identity, and the case went cold.

Still, science has advanced significantly in recent decades, and in 2020, investigators sent a sample of Windy Point Jane Doe’s DNA for familial testing. On April 19, 2022, the sample matched Susan Hoppes’ sister and brother, who had submitted their DNA.

News station KING 5 shared a video of the authorities’ findings:

Police suspect homicide was Hoppes’ manner of death, although they have no evidence to prove it or declare a suspect. The remains do show gnaw marks from carnivore damage, however. Hopefully, the detectives can provide Hoppes’ family with all the answers they’re looking for now that they have finally identified her.
