Young Police Officer Killed During Traffic Stop

Murdered Police Woman Had Two-Month-Old Daughter

( – Imagine waking up in the morning with the knowledge that simply going to work could cost you your life. That’s exactly what America’s police officers face every day. They take risks, save lives, support their communities, and change lives in ways the average citizen will probably never truly understand. Yet, loss of life is often far from the only loss experienced, as the family of one Chicago officer recently found out.

An armed suspect shot and killed 29-year-old Officer Ella French after a physical altercation during a routine traffic stop on Saturday, August 7. Fellow Chicago PD agents expressed their grief via Twitter only hours later:

French’s partner remains in hospital in critical condition, fighting for his life.

Officers charged 21-year-old Emonte Morgan with a number of crimes relating to the incident, including first-degree murder of a police officer.

A second suspect, 22-year-old Eric Morgan, will also face charges for illegal weapon use and obstruction of justice. However, officers did press charges against another man, Jamel Danzy, for his role in the shooting. He stands accused of federal firearm violations for purchasing the gun Emonte Morgan used to end Officer French’s life, which he provided to Morgan despite being aware of his criminal record.

The young officer’s brother, Andrew French, told the Chicago Tribune that his sister was “a person of integrity” during an exclusive interview. He also expressed his deep sense of loss over the incident, saying he was “still proud of her.”
