(ConservativeHub.com) – On Monday, April 22, former president Donald Trump slammed his former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen, arguing that he had been caught “lying.” This statement was made after a day in court amid his hush money trial, despite the gag order that had been imposed on him.
At the Manhattan Courthouse, Trump asked when they would be examining all of Cohen’s “lies” from the last trial. He continued by saying that Cohen had been caught lying in the past and asked again when it would be looked into.
These remarks came after the hush money trial opening statements, during which prosecutors accused Trump of attempting to illegally hide a hush money payment that had been made on his behalf to adult film star Stormy Daniels. According to prosecutors, the payment had been made by Cohen in order to conceal an alleged affair between Trump and Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.
Trump is facing a total of 34 counts of falsifying business records in relation to the payment made to Daniels. More specifically, the charges are linked to reimbursements Trump allegedly made to Cohen for the payment. Cohen faced charges back in 2018 and was ultimately sentenced to three years behind bars. He is expected to be a witness in the trial.
Cohen’s charges were connected to payments made by him with a nondisclosure agreement. Cohen reportedly argued that he made the move as instructed by someone running for federal office.
The case is being presided over by Judge Juan Merchan.
