( – Last weekend, President Joe Biden slammed news outlets by accusing them of perpetuating lies told for the sake of power and profit in an effort to spread hate. He proceeded to also spend time taking jabs at Fox News, according to Reuters.

While attending the yearly White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, Biden talked about the “truth buried by lies.” According to Reuters, this was likely a reference to claims about the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election. Biden then referred to the lies as those being pushed for “profit and power.” He added that they were repeated over and over again maliciously with the intention of creating more violence and anger.

The president further argued that it was this media cycle that encouraged local jurisdictions to implement book bans and take away important freedoms.

He proceeded to refer to what he dubbed “an extreme press” and he then quipped that if he referred to Fox News as an honest publication, then he could face a defamation lawsuit.

A few weeks prior, Fox Corp reached a settlement in a case brought on by Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million. The case revolved around Fox’s perpetuation of the claims surrounding the legitimacy of the 2020 election.

During his remarks, Biden also took a shot at Trump. He jokingly said that comedian and dinner attendee Roy Wood Jr. had previously offered him $10 to make a shorter speech. Biden joked that this marked a change with the “president being offered hush money.”

On April 4, Trump was charged with thirty-four felony charges in connection to a hush money payment made to an adult film star ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
