(ConservativeHub.com) – President Biden has claimed that a Chinese-brokered peace plan between Russia and Ukraine is “not rational” and stated that the proposal would benefit Russia, according to a report from The Hill.
During an interview with David Muir released on Friday, Biden was asked for his thoughts on the Chinese peace plan which was recently applauded by Russian President Putin. Biden told Muir that the answer to the question is clear by the fact that Putin applauded it. He said that it doesn’t seem to him that the plan would truly benefit anyone involved except Russia.
He added that it is completely irrational to think that China is going to be the one to negotiate the outcome of the war against Ukraine.
China has called for a cease-fire in the Ukraine-Russian war. Last week, they also released a 12-point plan for peace negotiations which would include putting an end to hostilities, resuming peace talks, and finding solutions to deal with the humanitarian crisis created by the war.
Ukrainian President Zelensky has not completely shut down the idea of the Chinese proposal. During a press conference, he indicated that China discussing Ukraine is “not bad,” but that there are certain parts of the proposal he disagrees with and that he would want to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding this.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated earlier this month that China was considering providing Russia with “lethal assistance” to be used in their war against Ukraine. The Pentagon has consistently warned China against making such a move and providing weapons to Moscow.
