(ConservativeHub.com) – Former Sec. of State Pompeo criticized Biden for the way he handled the suspect Chinese surveillance balloon case. During an interview with The Hill, Pompeo said that the administration had made a huge mistake which brought “global shame.”
During the interview, Pompeo denied that he or any other member of the Trump administration had knowledge of spy balloons entering the U.S. airspace while in office.
However, what Pompeo was most critical of was the Biden admin’s decision to delay the first balloon’s takedown. The Chinese balloon is the only one of the four objects that have been brought down over the past couple of weeks that was confirmed to belong to China. Biden stated in remarks on February 16 that the origins of the other objects were still unknown, but they were believed they were connected to private companies.
A US jet took the balloon down off the coast of South Carolina on Feb. 4. The large balloon, estimated to have been the size of three buses, had first traveled across the United States for a few days before it was shot down.
Pompeo said that they had no idea what type of data, intelligence signals, or imagery the balloon had collected while slowly moving over Montana, Kansas, and then South Carolina. He added that no action on the U.S.’s part could have given China “an enormous geopolitical advantage.” He also indicated that he believed taking down the balloon was more important than the risk of some debris falling over Montana.
