(ConservativeHub.com) – The American Cancer Society (ACS) has revealed that there is a record number of new cancer cases projected to be reported in 2024 in the United States. It’s reportedly expected that six out of the top 10 cancers will have an increase in the next year.

Earlier in January, the ACS put out its “Cancer Statistics, 2024,” where it projected that alongside the approximately 2 million cases, there would be 611,720 cancer deaths in the country within the year.

Since 2021, the number of cancer mortality rates have gone down. However, the ACS has argued that it is possible that this progress might not continue due to the increase that is projected in the top 10 cancers.

In 2023, the number of new cancer cases was estimated to be 1,958,310 while the estimation of cancer deaths was at 609,820. The final data on cancer cases and deaths for the year have not yet been finalized, The Hill reported.

ACS Surveillance and health equity science senior Vice President Ahmedin Jemal has argued that the aging population is currently playing a role in the increase that is projected. He pointed out that there are more cancer occurrences in older age groups, and as life expectancy continues to increase, then it could potentially mean that there will be an increase in cancer cases.

However, in the 2024 projections, it was also predicted that there would be a decrease in the number of people over the age of 65 who would get cancer, while an increase would occur in the people aged between 50 and 64.
