(ConservativeHub.com) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s ongoing feud with Disney is leaving many Republican lawmakers concerned about protecting the GOP’s reputation of being pro-business, pro-job building, and focused on economic prosperity.

According to a report from The Hill, former Florida Governor and current Senator Rick Scott (R) stated that it was time for “cooler heads” to take over. He proceeded to note that Disney is a big employer and tourist attraction that helps strengthen the state’s economy. Scott did express his belief that the parental rights bill which acted as the catalyst for the battle was positive. However, he continued by noting that Disney was the “biggest or second-biggest employer” in Florida and that half of those who visited the state for tourism did so in order to visit the Disney Amusement parks. In addition, he said when people visit the state, they are also far more likely to consider moving there.

Scott during the interview stated that in his opinion, helping businesses grow was the most important thing.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R) also spoke to Fox News, saying that he believed it to be “problematic” if the actions taken by the state appeared to be deliberately targeting a person or business. He added that it was particularly problematic when the idea that if you cross certain people politically, then you might find yourself having problems with the state’s legislature. In a different interview with The Hill, he stated that it was within the right of the Florida Legislature to reconsider yearly the special status given to Disney through its own district. However, he also reiterated that “you get concerned” if it starts to look like the government will target corporate entities for political reasons.
