(ConservativeHub.com) – On Wednesday, August 2, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) stated during an interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity that he was willing to debate against California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
The two governors’ relationship has become more tense over the past few months, especially following DeSantis’ decision to send migrants to Newsom’s state. Newsom has gone so far to threaten legal repercussions as a result of Florida’s actions. DeSantis, on the other hand, has frequently attacked Newsom for the number of people exiting his state.
Last September, Newsom challenged DeSantis to a debate following the two migrant planes that landed in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., that were organized by the DeSantis organization. The transportation of migrants had led to many Democrats criticizing DeSantis.
In June during an interview with Hannity, Newsom had stated that he would be willing to participate in a debate hosted by Hannity. According to The Hill, Newsom’s spokesperson said the California governor had challenged DeSantis to a debate for months and that recently, he even sent an official debate offer to DeSantis for either Nov. 8 or Nov. 10.
On Wednesday, DeSantis argued that he was already the one winning the debate between California and Florida as most people are leaving California for Florida. He added that Florida is the state with the most net in-migration.
DeSantis then alleged that it is possible that Newsom and not President Joe Biden is going to be the Democratic nominee next fall. He added that if that happens, or if Vice President Kamala Harris becomes the nominee then America is going to rapidly keep declining. Newsom has repeatedly denied suggestions that he plans to run for president in 2024.
Both Newsom and DeSantis submitted their own proposals for the debate, and according to reports, Newsom’s spokesperson slammed the opposite team’s ideas. It’s unclear how long it will take them to work out their differences.
