(ConservativeHub.com) – On Tuesday, March 26, New York Judge Juan Merchan issued a warning for the legal team of former President Donald Trump, calling for them to obey the rulings of the court. According to Merchan, the Court noted that they expect “creative lawyering” but that they also expect the advocates in the case to show the court the proper respect and to not forget that they are referring to court officers.

He continued by pointing out that Trump’s counsel is expected to follow Court orders while also making reference to the criminal contempt punishment issue in the four-page ruling.

This warning was included in the ruling, which dealt with the denial of the request filed by the Trump legal team to lift a requirement that the parties are required to first receive permission before being allowed to file any new motions ahead of the trial. The requirement was first put in place on March 8 and was presented by Merchan as an attempt to manage the case with greater efficiency, according to The Hill.

This past week, the judge claimed that Trump’s legal team had attempted to get around this requirement by, as The Hill reported, filing their proposed motion as “an exhibit to their letter seeking permission” before Merchan approved it. In the ruling Merchan, noted that while “zealous advocacy” is expected in this case, he would not be allowing the legal team to disregard the orders that had been issued.

The ruling came only one day after Merchan refused to make any delays to the criminal trial of former President Donald Trump, which is set to start jury selection on April 15.
