(ConservativeHub.com) – Around a year and a half ago, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis decided to help transport over four dozen migrants to Martha’s Vineyard from Texas. Since then, a few of those involved in the transportation have been given temporary legal designations because of the crimes they allegedly faced by DeSantis.
DeSantis previously implemented an immigration policy that resembled the one being enforced by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Abbott has become known for his busing operations, as he has sent hundreds of migrants to Democrat-run sanctuary cities, such as New York and Washington, D.C. DeSantis, meanwhile, organized the flight of around 50 migrants, some of whom had been children from San Antonio the island that is located south of Cape Cod.
Many of DeSantis’s critics have slammed him for transporting the immigrants, a move that allegedly cost around $615,000 in total to taxpayers in his state. This is around $12,300 for each of the immigrants who had been relocated. The money came from a $12 million fund set aside to transport undocumented migrants.
Only days after the plane landed in the village, the migrants with the support of civil rights attorneys brought forward a class action lawsuit seeking to receive emotional and economic compensation.
These migrants have now been given the right to legally work and live in the country while also avoiding possible deportation while they wait for visas. Rachel Self, the immigration attorney of the migrants, stated that this is because they applied for special visas intended for certain crime victims. According to her, the migrants have alleged that they were deceived into taking flights to Massachusetts with promises of work and aid that turned out to not be true. She said that only a few of the migrants have gotten “bona fide determinations” for possible visas thus far, but that others are expected in the future.
