(ConservativeHub.com) – On Friday, February 16, a Minnesota man was charged by the Department of Justice for having conspired to provide and providing support to ISIS. The man also allegedly threatened to attack New York City.

U.S. citizen Harafa Hussein Abdi, 41, who is a Minneapolis resident, was taken into custody while overseas and brought back to the U.S. where he is facing imprisonment for up to 20 years.

In a statement, Matthew Olsen, the Assistant Attorney General, alleged that Abdi had left the United States to join ISIS, which is considered a foreign terrorist organization. He said Aldi intended to become a fighter for the organization and assist in the group’s “propaganda efforts.”

Olsen continued by noting that the National Security Division’s highest priority was protecting Americans from terrorist organizations and that they would continue to work relentlessly to ensure that those who join these groups are held accountable.

Abdi reportedly first left Minneapolis in 2015 and arrived in Somalia. From there, he joined the group’s media team and was responsible for filming footage for distribution by a “pro-ISIS media outlet.” During his time in ISIS, he was also allegedly trained in how to properly use an AK-47.

In 2017, Abdi claimed that he would be flying through the United States and that he would be shooting up New York. He added, “They trying to shut this thing. We ain’t going,” and added he would be targeting New York. According to the Department of Justice, apart from these statements, he had also sent out social media messages that were focused on committing violent acts in the city.
