(ConservativeHub.com) – In Texas, a mother of five has been facing legal troubles since finding out that she could end up going to jail over library books.
According to a Fox News report, Kaylee Morgan said she had taken loan books from the Navasota Public Library in Grimes County in March 2023. However, she disclosed to Fox News Digital that she ultimately returned all of the books about Vincent Van Gogh that she had taken out, but one of them had been too large and did not fit in the returns box.
Court documents have reportedly revealed that the two books have a combined value of $60, but Morgan was slapped with a $569.50 bill, which included a number of court fees and fines. She is also facing charges for a city ordinance violation.
One of the alarming documents that she received read “Warrant is ACTIVE for Your Arrest,” and informed her that she needed to take action in order to avoid being jailed.
Morgan, however, said she didn’t know anything about the warrant until she had to go to the DMV. She said she first became aware of the problem when she started going through the process of getting her driver’s license renewed. The DMV then told her they could not help her because there was a warrant out for her arrest.
Morgan had then contacted the local court to find out what was going on, only to be informed that all of these troubles were related to the two library books. She tried to explain her situation to the judge, saying that she returned the books and that one of them was two weeks late because one was initially too big to fit inside the return box and she was pregnant at the time. The judge reportedly had little sympathy for her, so she set up a GoFundMe to help with legal fees and is planning to get legal help to try to have the problem removed from her record.
