(ConservativeHub.com) – A new Monmouth University poll found that the majority of Republican voters believe that former president Donald Trump is their greatest chance to beat President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election. The poll also showed that Trump continues to grow his support to become the party nominee.

GOP voters asked in the survey who they believe the strongest nominee to run against Biden would be. Forty-five percent said it was “definitely” Trump, 18 percent said it was “probably” Trump and only 19% said it was “probably” another candidate. Thirteen percent stated that it was “definitely” another candidate.

What’s even more notable is that even those who wanted to see someone other than Trump as the Republican nominee, 39 percent still believed that Trump was either “definitely” or “probably” the strongest candidate to win against Biden.

Patrick Murray, the Monmouth University Polling Institute’s director, said in a statement that if the main argument being used by those who oppose Trump is that he is not the strongest candidate, then they would have a long hill to climb in order to prove that point. He added that even if that messaging is targeting all those who believe that he is “probably” not the best candidate, it will still be hard to surpass Trump’s “hardcore base support.”

Trump also managed to secure 43 percent of Republican voter support on an open-ended ballot test for the GOP nomination, which remained fairly unchanged with the Monmouth March poll finding that Trump had 41 percent of voters’ support. This has, however, marked a dramatic increase since February when he was only at 33 percent.
