(ConservativeHub.com) – Several publications put out warnings in the past week about a second term for former President Donald Trump potentially resulting in the country slipping towards a dictatorship. The headlines resulted in many allies of Trump, who is leading the 2024 Republican primary polls ahead of the Iowa caucuses, pushing back against the claims.
The Hill reported that recently, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic put out stories talking about a possible Trump dictatorship and the potential dangers to democracy that a second Trump term could introduce. The Times specifically noted that a second term for Trump would be even more radical than his first term in office.
According to The Hill, Trump ally Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) took to X to claim that all of the articles that were referring to Trump as a dictator were only achieving one thing and that was to legitimize illegal conduct as they approached the 2024 presidential election.
Jason Miller, a senior Trump adviser, added his belief that this was the same situation that they had seen in August 2016, when healthcare costs had been rising, and that Trump’s opponent in the presidential trail had been “hiding from the press.” He then pointed out that these publications were no longer focused on debating key issues and instead their focus was on “fearmongering.”
On Monday, December 2, The Atlantic announced that their next issue would be focused on a possible second Trump term and what that would look like in terms of immigration, climate, the Justice Department, and civil rights. Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of the magazine introduced the series with an editor’s note that read “A Warning.” Meanwhile, The Washington Post published an opinion piece from Robert Kagan, and The New York Times published one part of a series discussing what another Trump term might entail. Both suggested the idea of Trump becoming a dictator or being similar to one.
